Taking joint responsibility in tackling global challenges
Through their Vested Contracts ISS The Netherlands aims to create an arrangement that is beneficial to not only themselves and their partners, but also to society as a whole. From their point of view, delivering first class integrated facility services management includes taking joint responsibility in tackling global challenges, such as climate change, pollution, and poverty. In order to fulfil this responsibility ISS The Netherlands approached Sinzer to gain insight into their social and environmental impact, and acquire the tools to incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals in their reporting cycle.
What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
The 17 SDGs, launched by the United Nations in 2015, cover the world’s most pressing social, environmental and economic challenges, such as providing decent work for everyone and tackling climate change. They provide a blueprint for public and private sector to contribute to achieving a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030. An increasing number of businesses is adopting the SDGs as a framework to guide their sustainability performance.

Making real impact through careful selection of activities
Through close collaboration with ISS The Netherlands and its vested partners we developed an impact-roadmap through a Theory of Change. This allowed for a selection of those activities which contribute most to the SDGs. Thus enabling ISS The Netherlands and its partners to shift their focus to those activities through which they can make actual impact. After selecting the activities we designed a yearly monitoring plan. This plan was based on an indicator framework accompanied by a set of SDG-based KPI’s. Together with ISS The Netherlands and the vested partners we collected and analysed the data, which was brought together in ISS’ first impact-report.
Incorporating the SDGS beyond the vested partnerships
Our work enabled ISS The Netherlands to further build on becoming an impact-oriented organisation and demonstrated how the SDGs can be incorporated in facility services management. This trajectory has given them the tools to not only report on, but also improve their social and environmental impact. They are currently extending their efforts to incorporate the SDGs in their work with other partners as well.
